Miami Gardens, Fla. - Luca Heusser broke the 2-2 tie in the 86th minute of the game to lead St. Thomas Men's Soccer (6-3-1 Overall, 3-0-1 Sun) to a win over Webber International (2-8-1 Overall, 0-3-0 Sun).
After the start of the game was delayed for over an hour due to lightning in the area, Webber International was able to get on the board first in the 20th minute on a ball that got past the Bobcats defense. St. Thomas responded in the 30th minute to equalize the game, as Lucas Caferra was able to put in a free kick from Thiago Patto. The game entered halftime, 1-1.
The Bobcats scored not long after the break, as Oscar Le Guillou scored the team-leading fifth goal of the season, as he was able to head in a corner kick from Patto in the 52nd minute. It took the Warriors just three minutes to respond, as Mateo Lozada had a 30-yard shot skip past the St. Thomas goal. The game remained scoreless until the 86th minute when the Warriors made a goalie change. Just seconds later, Patto made a cross in front of the net that was put in by Heusser for the game-winning goal. This was Heusser's second game-winning goal this season.
Patto was credited with all three assists on the Bobcats' goals on Wednesday night, bringing his season total up to 11 assists. Matias Fuentes was in goal for the Bobcats, and he made three saves. Three St. Thomas defenders, Chris Stafford, Julian Ramirez, and Yanik Keller, played all 90 minutes as they limited the Warriors to just six total shots.
The win extended the Bobcats' winning streak over Webber International to 16 games. It was the first time since 2020 that the Bobcats allowed a goal to the Warriors, and the first time they had allowed multiple goals to Webber International in the 23-game series history.
The Bobcats will play their last non-conference match of the year Saturday, September 10, as they travel just north of Tampa to Florida College. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm in Temple Terrace, Florida.
