Miami Gardens, Fla. - Kicking off the 2026 with a doubleheader against No. 6 Grand View on Saturday afternoon, the 19th-ranked St. Thomas Softball Team won both outings of the top-25 matchup 7-5 and 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
- Bailey LeGere capitalized on a GVU error in the bottom of the second to score the opening run and kick off a four-run frame with Jade Fayad touching home plate off a wild pitch before Alahnis Berrios and Bre'Asia Thomas scored Sydnee Fordham and Maggie Kirk off RBI singles.
- Mya Achenback hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
- Grand View cut into the lead off a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth.
- Fordham and Gianella Gomez recreated the Bobcats' five-run lead in the bottom of the fifth off RBI hits that scored Ashley Ramon and Fordham.
- Grand View staged a rally in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs before the Bobcats closed the first game.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
- Achenbach went 2-3 with a home run.
- Fordham scored two runs.
- Lilly Herdon drew a pair of walks.
- Johana Magaldi tossed 6.1 innings with five runs allowed off 11 hits for the win.
- Christiana Ortiz closed out the game for the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
- Fayad quickly got the Bobcats on the scoreboard off a RBI double in the bottom of the first that sent Kiara Selby home before Fordham plated LeGere to make it 2-0.
- Grand View cut the lead in half in the top of the second.
- Achenbach scored in the bottom of the second off a GVU error.
- Grand View answered the hosts' run with one of their own in the top of the third to make it 3-2.
- Fayad extended STU's lead to 5-2 off a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth that scored Herndon and Achenbach.
- Grand View finished the score with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
- Selby went 2-2 with one run scored.
- Fayad went 2-3 with three RBI.
- Achenbach rounded the bases twice.
- Melody Vizcaino threw 5.0 innings, allowing three runs of seven hits in the win.
- Ortiz earned her second save with two scoreless frames.
