Miami Gardens, Fla. - Capped by a grand slam from Emma Edwards on Monday evening, the No. 18 St. Thomas University swept visiting Mount Mercy in a doubleheader 7-1, 10-0 (5 Innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • Back-to-back hits from Alondra Lozada and Kiara Selby with two outs in the bottom of the second after an Alahnis Berrios hit by pitch kept the frame alive got the Bobcats on the scoreboard.
  • Starting the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with Bre'Asia Thomas touching home plate, the Bobcats extended their lead to 5-0 off a three-run homer from Mya Achenbach.
  • STU used an RBI groundout from Lozada and Mount Mercy error in the bottom of the sixth to push their advantage to 7-0.
  • Mount Mercy took advantage of a Bobcats' error in the top of the sixth to score a run. 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Achenbach went 2-4 with three RBI and one run scored off her home run
  • Thomas went 2-3 with two runs scored and one stolen base.
  • Gianella Gomez went 2-3 with one run scored. 
  • Maggie Kirk went 2-4 with a stolen base.
  • Melody Vizcaino threw a complete game with one unearned run allowed off three hits while striking out six batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
  • Bailey LeGere sent Sydnee Fodham and Achenbach home off a single in the bottom of the first before scoring on a Berrios base hit to quickly give the host a 3-0 lead.
  • LeGere sent Achenbach around the bases again in the bottom of the second with a single to extend STU's lead to 4-0.
  • Achenbach plated Lilly Herndon in the bottom of the third with a two-out triple before scoring on a Mount Mercy error to create a 6-0 lead.
  • With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Edwards scored Christina Ortiz, LeGere and Giada Aconfora to propel the Bobcats to a 10-0 advantage.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
  • Achenbach went 2-2 with three runs scored and one RBI.
  • LeGere went 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Jade Fayad went 2-3.
  • Edwards hit a grand slam.
  • Megaldi tossed 4.1 innings in the win with no runs allowed off two hits while striking out four batters.
