Miami Gardens Fla. – Led by a 25-point, 11 double-double from
Jaliyah Weekes on Tuesday evening, the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team opened play in the Sun Conference Championship with an 87-60 victory over the College of Coastal Georgia.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- STU quickly created a 13-9 lead midway through the first quarter, fending off a rally by the visitors that got them within five at 15-10 with four-straight points to head into the second frame ahead 19-10.
- Opening the second quarter with the initial seven points to boast a double-digit advantage, the Bobcats head Coastal Georgia without a run until a 7-0 run made it 32-22 with 1:02 left in the half. STU outscored the visitors 5-2 down the stretch to go into halftime ahead 37-24.
- The Bobcats held CG without a run of consecutive points for opening 7:45 of the third quarter, extending their lead to 20 and keeping it above 13 for the rest of the night.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Weekes went 9-13 from the field with eight of her 11 boards coming off the defensive glass.
- Joey Delancy added 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
- Maddie Scharrenberg chipped in 13 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- STU went 30-58 from the field, 5-14 from beyond the arc and 22-30 from the free throw line. Coastal Georgia went 18-67, 5-34 from three-point range and 19-25 from the free throw line.
- STU held a 54-31 advantage in rebounds.
- The Bobcats forced 15 turnovers, resulting in 13 points. The visitors scored 17 points off 22 turnovers.
- STU recorded four steals and three blocks versus 11 steals for Coastal Georgia
