Balanced Attack Leads Women's Lacrosse To Victory Over Ottawa

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Behind a balanced attack with seven members of the St. Thomas University Women's Lacrosse Team finding the back of the net on Sunday evening, the Bobcats defeated visiting Ottawa University 16-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Opening the scoring with a Gia Honahan free-position shot, Honohan countered back-to-back goals by the visitors with an equal response to keep the Bobcats ahead by one before Alana Thorne found Jenna Lytch to create a two-goal lead at 4-2. The Braves scored the final goal of the frame to make it 4-3.
  • The Bobcats held Ottawa to one goal during the second quarter while getting scores from Honahan, Kylie Lubrant and Hailey Josleyn to go into the break leading 8-4.
  • STU countered a Braves' score to start the third quarter with two goals from Josleyn sandwiching a Lubrant tally to boast an 11-5 edge.
  • After getting goals from Thorne and Stapleton to open the fourth quarter, the Bobcats withstood a 4-0 rally by the visitors with back-to-back goals from Lytch and held the Braves to one final goal to secure the win.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Honahan scored five goals with one assist for six points.
  • Josleyn tallied three goals with one assist for four points.
  • Lytch added three goals and four draw controls.
  • Kylie Lubrant picked up six ground balls.
  • Rachel Galyas forced two turnovers.
  • Lily Coary stopped 11 shots in the win.

  • The Bobcats took 30 shots, 22 on goals versus 29 shots for the visitors with 14 on target.
  • STU forced 22 turnovers while recording 18 of their own.
