Coming off a bye weekend, the newly ranked #17 St. Thomas Bobcats were back on the diamond against the #18 Concordia Nebraska Bulldogs.

The Bobcats put up an early crooked number in the second inning, scoring four runs. Nicholas Alonso got the first runs across on a two-run home run, followed by an Edwin Toribio RBI infield single, and a Daytan Biegel had an RBI hit by pitch. In the third inning, Keuri Martinez and Erick Ballenilla each had a two-out RBI single.

The Bobcats' starter, Juan Fernandez, had another strong start. Fernandez threw 6 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, four walks, and 14 strikeouts. He now leads the NAIA in strikeouts with 58, with the next closest player having 48 strikeouts.

After the Bulldogs got two runs back near the end of Fernandez's start, the Bobcats bats got very hot again. The Bobcats started the sixth inning with three consecutive singles. Eddie Novoa brought an insurance run in with a pinch-hit RBI hit by pitch. Following that, Keuri Martinez hit a grand slam. The Bobcats reloaded the bases again in the sixth inning for Luis Morera, and he also hit a grand slam. The Bobcats scored nine runs in the sixth inning.

Derek Rodriguez finished the game for the Bobcats in the seventh, allowing one run with two strikeouts. The Bobcats would get the run rule victory, winning 15 to 3.

The Bobcats pitching staff struck out 16 Bulldogs in seven innings, allowing five hits. Offensively for St. Thomas, the Bobcats had 15 hits with three home runs. Keuri Martinez was 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. Morera was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Biegel and Alan Nava also had two-hit games.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, March 6, for a doubleheader against Concordia University Nebraska. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
