Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Warner On The Road

Lake Wales, Fla. – Heading into the final quarter of Saturday's Sun Conference contest holding a two-goal lead, the St. Thomas University Women's Lacrosse Team fended off a comeback effort by host Warner University in a 13-12 triumph.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jenna Lytch gave the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead with a man-up goal before Paige Peters and Gia Honahan countered back-to-back goals by the Royals with a pair of scores to make it 3-2. Warner scored the final goal of the quarter to create a 3-all score.
  • The Bobcats pushed ahead 5-3 behind strikes from Honahan and Hailey Josleyn, only for a 3-0 Warner run making it 6-5. Kylie Lubrant ended the run with a goal, only for two more scores for the host extending their advantage to 8-6 at halftime.
  • STU held the host off the scoreboard for the entire third quarter while getting goals from Josleyn (twice), Lytch and Honahan to make it 10-8.
  • Warner knotted the score behind a 2-0 start to the fourth quarter, tying it again at 11-all before Peters and Paige Beardsley scored back-to-back goals to make it 13-11. The Royals scored the final goal of the contest.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Peters fueled the Bobcats behind seven points off two goals and five assists, adding two ground balls and one caused turnovers.
  • Josleyn scored three goals
  • Lytch forced four turnovers.
  • Honahan chipped in three goals on top of five ground balls.
  • Lubrant tallied six draw controls.
  • Kaitlyn Atchinson stopped nine shots in the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bobcats took 41 shots, 27 on goals versus 30 shots for the host with 18 on target.
  • STU forced 29 turnovers while recording 22 of their own.
  • St. Thomas held a 26-23 advantage in ground balls.
  • The Bobcats won 15 draw controls while Warner won 12.
