Softball Sweeps Florida National On Senior Day

Miami Gardens, Fla. - Playing their final home game of the 2026 regular season on Tuesday afternoon, the 22nd ranked St. Thomas Softball Team took both outings in a 2-1, x-x doubleheader sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • Maggie Kirk quickly got the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with an inside the park home run.
  • The Bobcats took advantage of a FNU error in the bottom of the third to score a run and extend their lead to 2-0.
  • Three-straight hits by the Conquistadors to start the top of the fourth scored a run and made it 2-1.

NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1):
  • Kirk went 2-4 with a RBI. and run scored.
  • Allison Morales went 2-3.
  • Jade Fayad wentt 1-3 with one RBI.
  • Christina Ortiz earned the win in the circle after throwing the initial five innings with one run allowed off five hits and four strikeouts.
  • Melody Vizcaino held FNU off the scoreboard for two innings for the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • An early error by the visitors in the bottom of the first allowed Emma Edwards to score the opening run of the second game.
  • STU took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fourth to double their lead
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of a Florida National error and a two-RBI single from Bailey LeGere
  • The Bobcats capitalized on a Lions' error in the top of the fourth to score a run.
  • A RBI single from Mendieta in the top of the fifth created the final score.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2):
  • LeGere went 1-3 with two RBI.
  • Edwards rounded the bases twice while going 1-2.
  • Kirk tallied two RBI.
  • Johana Magaldi tossed a complete-game shutout with five hits allowed and two strikeouts.

The Bobcats conclude the 2026 regular season with a three-game series at the New College of Florida, starting on Friday, April 24 at 3:00 pm.
