Bobcats Deliver on Senior day in Regular Season Finale vs Ave Maria

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA (APRIL 25, 2026) - On a day meant to celebrate its seniors, the St. Thomas University Bobcats made sure the result matched the occasion.

Behind a dominant middle-to-late innings surge, St. Thomas pulled away for a convincing 12–2 victory over the Ave Maria Gyrenes on Senior Day.

Ave Maria struck first in the top of the third inning when Anthony Fernandez launched a solo home run to left field, giving the Gyrenes an early 1–0 lead. The Bobcats wasted little time responding. In the bottom half, Daytan Biegel delivered an RBI single to tie the game before Alan Nava came through with a two-run single to left, putting St. Thomas ahead 3–1.

The Gyrenes trimmed the deficit to one in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Kyle Magdic, but the Bobcats answered again. A defensive miscue allowed Lester Martinez to score, and a wild pitch brought home another run, extending the lead to 5–2.

From there, St. Thomas broke the game wide open with an explosive seventh inning. The Bobcats capitalized on multiple Ave Maria errors while stringing together timely hits. Eddie Novoa sparked the rally with a bunt single that led to a run, followed by an RBI double from Erick Ballenilla. Freidy De La Rosa added an RBI single, and Keuri Martinez kept the line moving with a run-scoring bunt.

Ruben Gandarilla and Daytan Biegel each drove in runs later in the inning, while Luis Morera capped the scoring with an RBI single as the Bobcats poured on seven runs in the frame to put the game out of reach.

Biegel and Nava led the offensive charge for St. Thomas, combining for multiple hits and key RBIs in the early innings, while the team's relentless pressure in the seventh inning sealed the victory.

With the win, the Bobcats not only honored their seniors in style but also showcased their depth and resilience, turning a close contest into a runaway triumph in front of the home crowd.

The Bobcats now await their opponent for the Sun Conference Tournament at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Sun Conference Tournament begins on Thursday, April 30th.
