MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team battled the Carroll College Fighting Saints to a 1-1 draw, as both teams found the back of the net late in the second half.
The Bobcats were the more aggressive offensive side throughout the contest, finishing with advantages in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks.
St. Thomas controlled much of the attacking play during the opening 45 minutes. The Bobcats outshot the Fighting Saints 6-4 in the first half and generated three corner kicks while allowing just one. Despite creating several opportunities, STU was unable to find the opening goal as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
The Bobcats increased their offensive pressure following the break, recording nine shots in the second half.
STU finally broke through at the 71:42 mark. Hanah Gonzalez set up Mariana Sanchez, who found the back of the net to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Sanchez's first of the season, while Gonzalez collected the assist.
Carroll responded in the 83rd minute. Bailey Koster connected with Makayla Schnabel, who scored at the 82:13 mark to even the match at 1-1.
The Bobcats continued to push forward in search of the game-winning goal, but Carroll's defense held firm over the closing minutes as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
St. Thomas finished the afternoon with a 15-10 advantage in total shots and placed nine attempts on goal compared to four for Carroll. The Bobcats also controlled the corner-kick battle, generating seven corners while holding the Fighting Saints to two.
Carroll's goalkeeper was tested throughout the contest and finished with eight saves. On the other end, the Bobcats recorded three saves to limit the Fighting Saints to one goal.
STU committed 11 fouls compared to seven by Carroll, while the Fighting Saints received the only caution of the match when Emily Winters was shown a card in the 55th minute.
The Bobcats will now look to Life University as they travel up to Marietta, GA on Thursday, September 3rd.
