Women's Volleyball Fends Off Florida College

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Sparked by an eight-service aces effort from Raya Mlyakova on Friday evening, the 22nd-ranked St. Thomas University Women's Volleyball team fended off Florida College in a 3-1 (25-10, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24).

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Holding the visitors to a -.045 hitting percentage in the first set, the Bobcats quickly created a 1-0 overall lead. 

  • The Bobcats overcame an early 7-4 deficit in the second set behind a 7-1 run, only for Florida College to reclaim the advantage during a 6-0 run. 

  • After trading the initial 18 points of the third set, the Bobcats scored three-straight and kept the lead for the rest of the frame. 

  • Facing set point at 24-23 late in the fourth set, the Bobcats scored three-straight to end the match. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 54 kills on a .242 hitting percentage; Florida College tallied 41 on a .158 clip. 

  • STU served 13 aces while the Falcons tallied six. 

  • St. Thomas recorded two solo blocks and eight assisted versus thee solo and six assisted for the Falcons. 

  • The Bobcats held a 44-42 advantage in digs.
