Women's Volleyball Turns Home Opener Into Block Party, Sweeps Webber International

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Playing inside the Fernandez Family Center for the first time this season on Friday afternoon, the 21st-ranked St. Thomas University Women's Volleyball Team swept visiting Webber International (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) in their Sun Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Fueled by a .455 hitting percentage, the Bobcats scored the opening point of the contest and never trailed in the initial set. 

  • Trailing midway through the second set 12-10, the Bobcats scored 11 of the ensuing 12 points to flip the advantage in their favor at 21-13 and kept the lead for the duration of the frame. 

  • After splitting the initial 36 points of the third set for an 18-all stalemate, the Bobcats responded to a Webber point with seven-straight to complete the sweep. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Ranya Mehta sparked the Bobcats behind nine kills on a .615 hitting percentage, adding six assisted blocks. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 3 kills on a .257 hitting percentage; Webber International tallied 26 on a -.041 clip. 

  • STU served seven aces while the visitors tallied three 

  • St. Thomas recorded 37 assisted blocks with one solo versus six assisted and two solo for the Warriors. 

  • The Bobcats held a 32-26 advantage in digs.
