Jon Leatherman was hired as the Manager of Athletic Communications in January 2019, following the completion of his Master's degree from St. Thomas University.
In his role, Leatherman serves as the primary contact for all 24-sports at St. Thomas University, oversees communication and public relations efforts for the athletic programs, maintains social media accounts and the STU Athletics website, and manages the student-run, Bobcats Sports Network live-stream of home sporting events.
Leatherman began his involvement with the STU athletics department in January 2014, serving as the team manager for the Baseball program, holding that position for four years. Needing an internship to complete his B.B.A. in Sports Administration in the fall of 2017, Leatherman joined the sports information team, assisting with broadcast and statistics. Leatherman became a Sports Information assistant, following graduation and served in that role throughout graduate school, staying the primary contact for Baseball while also adding volleyball, men's and women's soccer as well as, men's and women's basketball. In the fall of 2018, Leatherman was named the interim Sports Information Director, assuming the role of the primary contact for all sports at St. Thomas University, while still in graduate school.
Throughout his tenure as the Manager of Athletic Communications at St. Thomas, Leatherman has successfully promoted the Baseball, Women's Basketball and Football programs to local media outlets; been published in the Miami Herald; highlighted three NAIA National Championship appearances for the Baseball program; managed the inaugural season of STU Football, showcasing the program on multiple television channels.
Leatherman is also an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and serves on the NAIA National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) committee. Leatherman was named the 2019-20 Sun Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, becoming the second STU SID to earn the honor.
