Kristen Nicolette

Kristen Nicolette has been named the St. Thomas University Softball Head Coach, taking over the position following one season as an assistant coach, announces Athletic Director, Laura Courtley – Todd.

Nicolette joined the STU Softball coaching staff, under former Head Coach, Melissa King in the 2019 season and served as the hitting coach. The Bobcats, under Nicolette's guidance, hit 0.306 as a team, scoring 185 runs, with 328 hits and had a slugging percentage of 0.363.

Playing collegiately at Miami – Dade College and Indiana Wesleyan University, Nicolette was a premier softball player. During her time at Miami - Dade, Nicolette hit 0.400 with 38 home runs and was named FIrst-Team NJCCAA All-Conference and First-Team All-American honors, while being named the NJCCAA National Player of the Year in 2010. At Indiana Wesleyan, Nicolette appeared in 125 games in two seasons (2017 – 18), recording 130 hits, 38 home runs, 142 RBIs and hit 0.374. As a senior in 2018, Nicolette was named a NAIA First-Team All-American, to the NFCA NAIA All-Region First-Team,a NCCAA First-Team member, Daktronics Scholar-Athlete and the 2018 NAIA Player of the Year. Nicolette helped lead the Wildcats to a program record for wins in a season (58) and a trip to the NAIA Softball World Series.

This is the first Head Coaching opportunity for Nicolette, as she looks to continue the positive momentum for the Bobcats, saying, "I am grateful for the opportunity to coach at St. Thomas University and thankful to [STU] President Armstrong and [Athletic Director] Laura [Courtley – Todd] for allowing me to build our program".

Nicolette earned her first career win on February 21 and went on to sweep Trinity Baptist College in a doubleheader, The Bobcats run-ruled TBC in both games, winning 9-0 and 11-3. STU added three wins at the 2020 PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. before returning home and sweeping Robert Morris University (ILL.). Before the 2020 campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Thomas ended the season with a second doubleheader sweep over Trinity Baptist on March 12. 

"My expectation is to keep raising the standard for our program and building off our strong foundation. Our incoming recruiting class is deep and the infusion of talent to our team allows us to compete in the Sun Conference", added Nicolette.

Nicolette resides in Davie, Fla. with her husband, Tommy.
