SAVANNAH, GA - St. Thomas University Bobcats volleyball team (12-20, 7-7 in the Sun Conference) saw their season come to an end as they lost 3-1 (9-25, 21-25, 25-18, 13-25) to the top seeded Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles ending the 2008 season in the semifinals round of the Sun Conference Tournament for the Bobcats.
Adriana Montilla had an impressive stat line for the day leading the team in kills with 19 and making 13 digs good enough for the usual double-double performance in addition to 3 blocks.
Nicole Molander-Barraza finished a successful freshman season with 10 kills 2 aces and 1 block.
Lauren Wilson had the best hitting percentage in the game to go along with 5 kills.
Fernanda Neves led the team with 37 assists and one dig shy of a double-double as she recorded 9. An Inspired Senior Libero in
Julianne Rivera finished her season with a stellar performance as she denied opposing hitters with a match high 21 digs. This match featured the a season high for the Bobcats as they had 6 blocks,
Haleema Linares was partly responsible, she was a big presence in the middle with 4 blocks.
This was the last match this season for the Bobcats as they were defeated and therefore eliminated from the Sun Conference Tournament. Bobcats just finished the program's most successful season since 2002. Which has to have Bobcat Volleyball fans excited as this was accomplished with high impact performances by starting Freshmen who now have a full season's worth of experience under their belt and a new change in the program's philosophy; the roster only featured one Graduating Senior-
Julianne Rivera who led the conference in digs per set from week one in the season earning her the award for the Defensive Player of the Year and being named to the 1st Team All-Conference. You have to assume that everyone coming back is only going to get better. The future is Bright for STU volleyball and next season looks to be a very promising one for its supporters.
