Miami Gardens, FL – The first game of the new 2008 Bobcat women's soccer season was also the first game on the new Bobcat soccer field and like that first ride in a new car the game was a smooth ride for the Bobcats from the start. St. Thomas defeated the Warner Southern College Royals 3-0, and had the game under control after Jobeth Ramirez scored a goal during the 14th minute.
The Royals (1-1, 0-1 in the Sun Conference) lost control of the momentum and time of possession of the ball early in the game allowing the Bobcats (1-0, 1-0 in the SC) to outshoot them 12 to 4 in the first half. Of the twelve shots the Bobcats took in the first half two found the back of the net, the early shot by Ramirez and a second by Shanoska Young five minutes later after a rebound from a previous Bobcat shot rolled her way and she took full advantage of the opportunity to score.
After taking a 2-0 leading into intermission the Bobcats wasted little time scoring at the beginning of the second period when Cindy Rivera scored during the 46th minute. All three goals for the Bobcats were scored on Royals starting goalie Heather Romanoski. She played for 53 minutes and made eight saves. During the 54th minute Julia Valentine came into the game at goalie and made three saves while she was on the field. Maria Mora completed the game in goal for the Bobcats playing the entire 90 minutes and making four saves.
Three of Mora's saves were due to the effort of Royal Cassandra Hill, she attempted the most shots on goal and tied Tara Fandenrecht for most shot attempts with three. Jobeth Ramirez was the most aggressive Bobcat, she attempted six shot and five were on goal. The Bobcats managed to outshoot the Royals 20 to nine. The Bobcats will play again at Savannah College of Art and Design September 3, 2008, at 6:30 for another Sun Conference game.
