Miami Lakes, FL The St. Thomas University volleyball (4-11, 2-2 in The Sun Conference) team lost a tough 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-8) match to the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish (5-7).  Nicole Molander-Barraza led the team in kills with 17 and three assisted blocks.  Many of those kills came from Fernanda Neves, as she totaled 44 assists.

For the majority of game one the Bobcats were chasing the Sailfish,  Neves kept the Bobcats within striking distance with pinpoint serves.  She had six service aces during the game.  The Sailfish players were able to get a hand on many of the balls she served up but they were unable to control the ball after contact.  She would end the match with seven total service aces.  The Bobcats lost game one (25-18).

The Bobcats corrected their mistakes from the first game and spiked their way through the Sailfish defense winning the game (19-25).  Karla Vargas led the Bobcats in kills during the game with three on seven attacks.

The momentum gained by the Bobcats in game two carried over to game three and jumped out to an early 9-3 lead.  The strong play forced the Sailfish to take a timeout.  The timeout woke up the Sailfish and they scored four straight points forcing a St. Thomas timeout.  The game would remain close late into the game until Adriana Montilla sent a devastating kill over the net and crashing into the Sailfish side of the floor to give the Bobcats a 20-21 lead.  Neves and Vargas would not let Montilla effort go for not as they followed up the play with a timely block together making the score 20-22.  The Bobcats would win the game 22-25.

Game four featured a good start for the Bobcats but it also featured a good start from the Sailfish.  The game remained close throughout it until the Sailfish put together three scores to win 25-23.  The highlight of the match for the Bobcats came when Daniela Orlandini recorded a solo block which gave the Bobcats a 17-18 lead.

Losing game four may have remained with the Bobcats as they allowed the Sailfish jump to a 7-2 lead.  The slow start doomed the Bobcats and they lost the match 15-8.  The next match for the Bobcats is against Florida Memorial University away September 30 at 7 PM.
