MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Lady Bobcats gave Northwood their first conference loss of the season Friday in the Fernandez Center. STU grabbed a 4-point lead heading into the half and never relinquished it, coming out with the 73-69 victory.
The Seahawks came out firing, hitting 5 three-pointers in the first ten minutes, but Cindy Castrillon answered with back-to-back three's of her own to keep the Bobcats close. STU rallied and held a 37-33 lead heading into the break. The Bobcats opened the second period with staunch defense that helped them build the lead into double figures but Northwood battled to tie the game with just a few minutes remaining. STU closed out with solid free-throw shooting to firmly hold the second position in the conference.
Castrillon had 18 points with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Nickerline Montina led the game in scoring with 23 points and also grabbed 9 boards. Amanda Fernandez was Ms. Everything for the Bobcats Friday scoring 7 points, grabbing 6 boards, dishing 7 assists and forcing 5 steals. Carissa Staiano also provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and 5 rebounds.
STU improves to 17-8 (10-3 TSC) and go to Johnson & Wales Saturday.
