BOBCATS DROP TIGHT CONTEST TO FIRE

LAKELAND, Fla. - St. Thomas (6-6-1. 2-4 TSC) fell to Southeastern (8-5, 2-4 TSC) 2-1 in a tightly contested Sun Conference match on Thursday afternoon at SEU Field in Lakeland, Fla.  The win gave Southeastern a one-game lead over the Bobcats in The Sun Conference South Division standings as both teams jockey for postition in advance of postseason play.

The win for Southeastern marked the first time in its program history that the Fire have defeated the Bobcats in women's soccer.

Southeastern's Alyssa Kaminski scored early in the 12th minute, but a goal by STU's Sarah Lyppert Thomsson off an assist by Michelle Bailey tied the game up in the 24th minute.  The goal marked the fourth of the year for Thomsson, while the assist was Bailey's first as a Bobcat.  Bailey leads the team in total points with 13 and is the team's leading goal scorer with six.

Then with less than one minute left before the half, the Fire's Karly Palmer scored what proved to be the game-winner off an assist by Kaminski.  Despite several opportunites, both teams were scoreless for the entire second half.

Three conference games remain for both teams with the Bobcats returning to action on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in a road match at Ave Maria.
