STU STAYS IN TOURNAMENT CONTENTION WITH LAST-MINUTE GOAL

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (3-13, TSC 3-6) takes down Johnson & Wales (5-10, TSC 2-7) with a final minute goal to secure their third conference win of the season by the score of four goals to three. This win also places the Bobcats as the eigth seed in The Sun Conference playoff tournment in the current standings.

To start the match, there was little action in the first half, as the Bobcats had four shots and the Wildcats had six shots with no goals to either of their names. But, with less than five minutes left in the half, the intensity picked up as Johson & Wales was able to score in the 41st minute off a deep cross. They tacked on a nother goal just a minute later from a short pass inside the box, to go ahead by two goals with only two minutes left in the half. Fortunately for the Bobcats, quickly after, a deflected STU shot was rebounded and put into the goal by Andres Rico with only seconds left in the half.

The second half started off much like the first with shots being exchanged with no goals. This was until the Wildcats were able to strike in the 65th minute off a deep pass to go ahead by two. The Bobcats were able to answer back late in the 80th minute from a goal by Carlos Cruz off an assist from Ruiz to shorten the lead once again. After that, the match was all Mikhail Weatherly for the Bobcats. In the 85th minute, Weatherly was able to score off a free kick 30 yards away to tie up the match with only five minutes left. And, with only a minute left in the match, Rico was able to connect a final pass to Weatherly to secure the victory with a goal in the final minute of the match.

This match helped the Bobcats stay in conference playoff contention as they attempt to secure a final playoff spot when they face Florida Memorial, Wednesday the 29th, at 4 p.m.
