BOBCATS FALL TO SIMPSON AT CRUZIN' CLASSIC

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Despite a game-high 21 points and a near-school record nine steals by Dannisha Pierce, St. Thomas (5-3) fell to Simpson (9-1) 51-46 as part of the Cruzin' Classic hosted by Trip Sports at Barry University.  The Bobcats, who trailed by eight points at halftime and by as many as 16 points in the second half, battled back into the game in the second half but ultimately fell just short.

Down 41-25 with 15 minutes to play, STU went on a 15-4 run capped by a fast-break layup by Desanta' Franklin-Jordan to cut the deficit to four points with 7:34 to play.  A layup by Jamesha Willis cut the lead to two points with 3:30 left, but Simpson pulled away until Pierce again cut the lead to two with 49 seconds to play off a Franklin-Jordan assist.  The Storm would pull away once again for the final margin.

In 38 minutes played, Pierce, who has scored in double figures in every game this year, recorded her fourth 20-plus point performance of the season.  Her nine steals were one shy of her own school record of 10 (vs. Johnson & Wales, Jan. 6, 2012).  Through this season's eight games, Pierce leads the team in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounds (10.6 rpg), steals (4.5 spg) and minutes played (35 avg.).  She currently leads the nation (NAIA DII) with an average of 6.0 offensive rebounds per game.

St. Thomas returns to action on Monday, Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m. vs. the University of Quebec at Montral as part of The Athlete's Meals Classic at the Fernandez Family Center.
