STU HOLDS OFF AMU; CAREER-BESTS FOR PIERCE, WRIGHT

AVE MARIA, Fla. - Dannisha Pierce scored a career high 37 points as St. Thomas (9-3, 2-0 TSC) defeated host Ave Maria (9-5, 1-2 TSC) 70-65 in a key early-season Sun Conference matchup.

Pierce, who earlier this week was named NAIA National Player of the Week, came one point shy of matching the school record for points in a game. Pierce is already the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder.

Pierce shot 13-of-17 from the field and 11-of-13 from the line while playing all 40 minutes.  Antishia  Wright led all players with a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 11 points.

The Bobcats took control of the game early, leading 44-24 at halftime. The Gyrenes came back in the second half, but the STU lead was too much to overcome and the Bobcats held on for the win.

St. Thomas returns to Sun Conference action on Saturday with a home game vs. Northwood at the Fernandez Family Center.
