BOBCATS CONTINUE TO GEL IN CONFERENCE PLAY; TOP WEBBER 3-1 ON SENIOR DAY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (8-4, 5-1 TSC) used a second half surge to pull away from the visiting Webber International Warriors (3-6-1, 1-4-1 TSC) to cap off Senior Day.  Kris Wilkinson, Fabian Heinrich, and Federico Moronell were today's Bobcat goal scorers.  Goalkeeper Jiayi Wang, who missed the previous two matches, returned to the starter's role and was able to pick up his fourth victory of the season.

The opening festivities saw five Bobcats honored for their career efforts here on Senior Day.  Three starters in Victor Cortez (Defender, Miami, Fla.), Tony Mamodaly (Forward, Mannheim, Germany), and Wang (Goalkeeper, Beijing, China), as well as reserves Paul McCallum (Defender, Kingston, Jamaica) and Carlos Martinez (Forward, Miami, Fla.), were each singled out along with their families and presented with an honorary plaque and bouquet.

The good feelings from the pre-game ceremonies seemed to propel the Bobcats in the early goings.  Abraham Bibas found Wilkinson just outside the box for his fourth goal of the season.  The match was barely five minutes in when Wilkinson found the back of the net.  The remainder of the first frame was muddied by the issuance of yellow cards, but St. Thomas maintained a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

One minute into the second, the Warriors' Sam Todd assisted Driss Baraket on the equalizer.  Webber would not have much time to celebrate, as it was the Bobcats who once again started to go forward upon the restart.

The Bobcats aggressiveness yielded them a corner kick in the 57th minute.  Cortez's kick bounced around between a couple of Webber defenders, but a bad header fell right into the lap of Heinrich.  Heinrich corralled the rebound and blasted the ball through the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Not satisfied with a 2-1 lead, the Bobcats would continue to attack.  The aggressive strategy again yielded points in the 82nd minute when, on a fast break, Roni Luokkamaki sent a beatiful cross past the incoming keeper to the waiting feet of Moronell.  With nothing but a wide open net in front of him, Moronell softly touched the ball into the net for his second goal of the season, sealing the Warrior's fate.

St. Thomas returns to the pitch this upcoming Wednesday in a grudge match against a noted conference rival, Keiser.  The Seahawks previously bested the Bobcats 2-1 in a non-conference matchup earlier this season.  Kick-off is set for 3 P.M. E.T. at Keiser's Arrigo-Vecellio Field.
