WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Thomas (9-4, 6-1 TSC) scored a significant road victory against Keiser (5-9-1, 4-3-0), holding on late for the 2-1 victory.
Chris Valdes and
Kris Wilkinson were today's goal scorers. Keeper
Deljan Bregasi picked up his fourth victory of the season. Today's win avenged an earlier 2-1 defeat to the Seahawks in non-conference play.
St. Thomas got off to an excellent start. Flipping the script from their last matchup, it was the Bobcats who controlled possession and generated good looks.
With just their second shot of the match, St. Thomas found itself on the boards when Valdes thrusted a Wilkinson-assisted ball into the back of the net in the 8th minute. It was Valdes first score of the year.
Moments later, it was Wilkinson who provided another Bobcat goal in the 11th minute.
Victor Cortez shot the ball through a slew of defenders and Wilkinson finished it off for his fifth goal of the season.
The St. Thomas defense was stout throughout. It was not until the 81st minute that Keiser was finally able to give itself a chance. Adil Iich found Tomas Cordeiro on the right side of the box, and Cordeiro shot the ball through to bring the score within one. To the Seahawks' chagrin, the Bobcat defense would regain their form to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Bobcats hit the pitch again this Saturday afternoon for another pivotal conference game against Johnson & Wales (Fla.). St. Thomas is currently the second seed in the Sun Conference, while the Wildcats are seeded fourth. With two games remaining in the regular season, both teams are down to their last opportunities to secure a top seed. Kick-off is set for 4 P.M. E.T. at North Miami Stadium.
