MIAMI GARDENS Fla. - St. Thomas (21-8, 8-1 TSC) showed once again why they are a favorie team in the Sun Conference with another win (25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) over the visiting Keiser Seahawks (19-10, 4-5 TSC). This match was senior night for the Bobcats and would also be the fourth time both teams faced off this season. St. Thomas dominated all match-ups over Keiser this season and finished strong on what would be their senior night. Leading in kills for the Bobcats were
Whitney Battoe (14 kills),
Carly Durr (14 kills), and
Cheye-Anne Savage (12 kills).
Setting her teammates the ball early on was
Dana Nowaczyk. She accumulated 29 assists and was followed by teammate
Kimberly Martino with 18 on the night. Also playing a helping hand in the win for the Bobcats on her senior night was
Danielle Mobley, as she recorded 3 aces throughout the match.
Jordan Wiese had another big day defensively, securing a match-high of 29 digs. Trailing behind her with an accumulation of (9 digs) was senior
Sydney Maynard and Nowaczyk a junior with (8 digs).
Starting off in the first set both teams seemed to catch small rally runs keeping the score within a few points. In the latter half of the set, with the score at 18-17, however the Bobcats with the one point lead were able to be more consistent as they outscored the Seahawks eight to three in points to end the first match with a score of 25-20.
The second set entailed of St. Thomas at its best. From all aspects of the game the Bobcats would never look back and their lead remained unchallenged. They were able to outscore while holding the Seahawks to a 14 point deficit. The match would end with a score 25-16 St. Thomas.
The third set proved more competitive with both teams trading points early on. With the Bobcats holding a two point lead 12-10, the Seahawks would catch second wind. Coming back from the deficit, Keiser would gain and stretch the lead with an eight point rally. Trying to regain their composure, the Bobcats would strike with a few more points, but would find themselves falling short of the Seahawks 25-20.
Heading in to a battling fourth set, both teams would repeat the same play concurrent to set one. Rallying points back an fourth the Bobcats would have the slight hand as they grinded out the win 25-20.
It will be a quick recovery for St. Thomas, as they return to their home court for another Sun Conference contest. Up next are the Ave Maria Gyrenes. A team St. Thomas beat earlier in the season, the Gyrenes are 13-16 overall and 1-8 in conference play. First serve is set for 12 P.M. E.T.
