MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (17-3) exhibited another fantastic display with a 3-0 route (25-18, 25-12, 25- ) of Point Park (9-12). The Bobcats were led offensively by
Whitney Battoe and
Lenicia Tyson, who each finished with nine kills.
Dana Nowaczyk and
Kimberly Martino combined for 37 assists, and
Jordan Wiese tallied another 12 digs.
Both teams traded points over the first half of exchanges in set one. Even at 16, the Bobcats would proceed to outscore the Pioneers 9-2 for a surprisingly lopsided victory in the first.
Samantha Garza led all Bobcats with four kills in the first.
The one-sided play continued into the second. St. Thomas raced out to an early lead and the Pioneers simply had no answer. An attack error by Point Park's Emily Meng awarded St. Thomas the 25-12 victory, netting the Bobcats a 2-0 lead overall.
The third set featured more of the same, as the Bobcats ran away with a 25-11 victory.
Offensive standouts included Battoe (nine kills, one block, one service ace, five digs),
Lenicia Tyson (nine kills, two service aces), and
Carly Durr (seven kills). Nowaczyk kept the offense flowing with 25 assists and two service aces. Martino highlighted the Bobcats depth, filling in for Nowaczyk at times, and providing 12 assists of her own. The defense was led by Wiese's 12 digs.
The Bobcats are off this weekend, but return to action on Friday, October 16, when they resume conference play. Their opponent will be the Webber International Warriors. First serve is set for 7 P.M. E.T.
