DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – St. Thomas (21-4, TSC 14-1) secured another easy victory, this time defeating Embry-Riddle (14-11, TSC 6-9) by the score of 62-44. For the Bobcats, this marked their 14th conference victory, inching them closer to sealing the conference's top seed with only three games remaining.   Once again leading the Bobcats was
Dannisha Pierce, who had a game-high 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals.
The Bobcats got off to a quick start, converting two turnovers by Embry-Riddle's Taylor Cyphers into Pierce layups in the paint. The Eagles were also able to find early success inside the paint, responding with an 8-0 run of their own. As they typically do, the Bobcats would rely on the production of their front court. Pierce (12 points) and
Claudia Martin (6 points) combined to score 18 of St. Thomas' 26 first-half points. However, that was not enough to put away Embry-Riddle, who scored 23 points to keep the Eagles within three at the half.
The first five minutes of the second half played much like the ending minutes of the first half, as both teams continued to trade baskets. Embry's Hannah Carine tied the match at 31 with 15:17 on the clock. The next 15 minutes would take quite a turn as the Bobcats would begin to flex their muscle. Over the next five minutes alone, the Bobcats would complete a 14-2 run to push the lead to double-digits. The Bobcats would continue to add to their lead, much to the Eagles' chagrin. Frustrations boiled over as double technical fouls were assessed to St. Thomas'
Desanta' Franklin-Jordan and Embry-Riddle's Sabrina Whiting. Embry would be forced to take a timeout to stem the bleeding, but by this point it was much too late. The Bobcats would hold on for the 62-44 victory, in large part, thanks to the efforts of Antisia Wright. Wright scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half, which helped create some separation from the Eagles.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, February 17, when they face Florida Memorial in a Lion's home match at the Fernandez Family Center. Tip-off it set for 6 P.M. local time. The Bobcats previously defeated the Lions 73-54 when they matched up against each other on January 20.
