DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – St. Thomas (18-8, TSC 9-5) spilts afternoon doubleheader against Embry-Riddle (16-11, TSC 6-5) at Silwa Stadium. The Eagles took game one at a score of 6-3, while the Bobcats secured a game two victory 6-5.
Steven Fischer went a collected three for five with a double and three walks on the day.
Alejandro Kan would have the best day on the mound, as he recorded his third win after two and two-thirds with no hits or runs and three strikouts.Â
In game one, the Eagles scored first in the bottom of the first inning against STU starter
Alex Perez, as one run was posted from a groundball out to second base. The Bobcats would respond in the top of the next inning, as
Paul Chacin would score from a passed ball. In the top of the fourth, STU would take the lead, as
David Quintero and
Eric Santamaria scored from a failed pickoff attempt. But, the Eagles would answer again, regain the lead in the bottom of the six with five runs and put an end to Perez's day on the mound after his first out that inning. Alex Sarimento would come in relief and wouldn't allow any Eagle runs in his next two innings of work. STU would threatening a few more time within the ensuing plate appearances, but it wouldn't be enough as Embry-Riddle would secure the second game of the three-game series.
Overall, in game one,
Steven Fischer would have the best outing, going three for four with a double.
Jerry Downs and Santamaria would also have multi-hit game ones.
Alex Perez would move to a 1-1 record, after the loss, while winning Eagle pitcher, Tyler Cyr, moves to 2-2 on the season.
In game two, Downs would be the first to produce a run, as in the top of the third, his single would score
Adam Duarte. Chacin would later score
Cesar Ramirez off a groundball out to third base and end the STU scoring for the inning, putting them ahead 2-0. The Eagles would tie it back up in the bottom half of the inning with two of their own, off the Bobcat game two starting pitcher,
Andres Hernandez. The Bobcats would regain the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs, as a
Brandon Canizares RBI single and a Ramirez two-RBI single would put STU ahead 5-2. Hernandez would allow another run going into his fourth inning of work, but Kan was able to secure the last two outs of the inning to hold the Bobcat lead to two. Canizares would post another RBI single in the next half inning to regain their three-run lead. But again, the Eagles would put the STU lead within two, as reliever,
Tyeler Checkley, replaced Kan. Kan would end his day after his lights out two and two-thirds innings of work, with no runs and three strikeouts.Â
In the ninth,
Chris Rodriguez would come in for the save for the Bobcats. The inning would start with back-to-back Eagle singles, which would later result in a groudn ball out scoring the runner from third and putting the STU lead within one with one out. After a strikout and groundout, Rodriguez would secure his sixth save and the Bobcat win. Kan was awarded the win and moves to 3-0 on the year, while ERAU starter, Corey Tufts was given the loss and moves to 4-3. Overall in game two, Canizares had the best day at the plate, going two for four with two RBI and a run.Â
Next up, Bobcats head to West Palm Beach for the Palm Beach Challenge, where they will play Caldwell University in a doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.Â
