BUCCANEERS STEAL TWO FROM THE BOBCATS ON BRADY DAY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (2-10) dropped both games on the day against Barry (20-5).  In game one, the Bobcats challenged the Buccaneers before ultimately falling by the score of 7-3.  In game two, the Buccaneers took a commanding lead and held on for the 8-0 victory.  Kristen Scott led all Bobcats on the day with two hits and two RBI.  Jessica Matias also had a solid day at-bat with three hits.

Game one got off to a slow start.  Both teams displayed their fielding abilities in the early goings, holding each other to three scoreless innings.  Barry broke the ice in the top of the fourth when Dianelys Espinosa and Julie Brito hit consecutive homeruns to left field. The Bobcats would respond in the bottom of the inning, beginning with a triple by Jessica Matias.  Matias would score off a Natalie Sacramento RBI single.  With runners on second and third, Scott hit a two RBI double to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game.In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, Brito hit a grand slam to reclaim the lead for the Buccaneers.  They would extend their lead in the top of the sixth when Brito was walked with the bases loaded, scoring Ashley Fernandez.

The Bobcats appeared to have something going in the bottom of the sixth when Kristen Scott doubled to left field.  Catasus made an aggressive play to get to home from first.  The throw to home, however, appeared to be in time as she was called out by the umpire, ending the inning and the Bobcats scoring hopes. Down 7-3 in the top of the seventh, the Bobcats would give themselves another chance by surrendering no further runs.  But the comeback bid never materialized as the Bobcats went three up and three down.

Game two unfolded in a similar manner to that of the first.  Both teams went scoreless over the first three innings.  Barry again struck in the top of the fourth when an RBI single from Fernandez scored Alexis Corrente. Barry would add another four runs in the top of the fifth.  Espinosa scored off a pass ball.  Kelly Martinez scored off a Kristina Osorio RBI double.  Osorio would score, herself, off a catcher's interference.  Alayna Gallagher hit an RBI single to score Fernandez, giving the Bucs a 5-0 lead. With each successful Buccaneer outing, the Bobcats had trouble delivering a response of their own.  Barry would add three more runs in the top of the sixth.  After failing to score in the bottom of the inning, the run rule was invoked sealing the Bobcats fate.

The Bobcats return to action next Saturday, March 14, when they open conference play against Thomas (Ga.) in a doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M. ET.
