LAKE WALKES, Fla. – St. Thomas (2-16, TSC 0-6) drops doubleheader to Warner University (9-9-1, TSC 3-1) in Saturday afternoon conference doubleheader at The Lady Royals Softball Field.
Amanda Furar went two for three in game two with an RBI, highlighting the offense for the Bobcats on the day.
In game one, the Royals struck first in the bottom of the second with three runs off of starting Bobcat pitcher
Carson Catasus. The runs would come from a three-run homer off the bat of Erika Shick. STU would rally in the ensuing innings, as
Christina Horton would head to scoring position after stealing second in the third, but the rally would end there. Warner would tack on another run in the bottom of the fourth from a Royal RBI single and extend their lead to four. In the sixth, the Bobcats would threaten again, as a
Linett Perez single and stolen base, would place a runner in scoring position again. But once again, the Royal pitching proved to be too much for STU and the rally would end there once again. After that,
Cristina Sacramento would post one more hit for the Bobcats in the seventh, pushing the hit total to four on game, but would end there, as the Royals would secure the game one shutout victory 4-0.
In game two, the Bobcats would take charge first in the game, as they opened up the top of the first inning with a
Jessica Matias single and stolen base, Horton sac bunt and Furar single scoring the first run of the game. This lead would be held throughout the game, until the top of the seventh, where the Bobcats would score again. A
Natalie Sacramento single followed by a
Jamie Gonzalez RBI single would extend the Bobcat lead to two after the top of the last inning. The Royals would fight back in bottom of the seventh, first by tying the game off a two out RBI single. Later, with two down, Warner's Jelisa Potter would hit a walk-off RBI single to center and secure the Lady Royal sweep over the Bobcats, 3-2.
On the day,
Cristina Sacramento and Furar would both have multi-hit games, with Furar posting an RBI as well.
Carson Catasus and
Cristina Sacramento would be given the losses on the day, as they both pitched complete games on their doubleheader appearances. Matias, Horton, Catasus,
Kristen Scott and
Natalie Sacramento all recorded a hit on the day.
Bobcats head to Babson Park tomorrow to play another conference doubleheader at Webber International. First pitch scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on the day.
