BABSON PARK, Fla. – St. Thomas (2-18, TSC 0-8) drops pair of games to Webber International at Nancy Nichols Field in Babson Park. In the afternoon doubleheader,
Jessica Matias posted a hit in each game, while
Carson Catasus pitched a complete game one-run outing in her game two start.
In game one, the Bobcats were able to tack on three hits overall from the bats of Matias,
Christina Horton and Catasus. They were also able to draw three walks during game one, as well. STU threatened most in the top of the fourth and sixth, as they had a runner in scoring position twice during their at-bats in each inning. On the mound, starter,
Cristina Sacramento pitched all six innings, giving up eight hits and allowing three runs, with one strikeout.
In game two, it was a defensive battle throughout, as Catasus and Webber starter, Naomi Spurgeon, would go at it for all seven innings. The Bobcats would be able to post on hit off the bat of Matias in game two, but the most influential hit came from the Lady Warrior bat of shortstop Jennifer Hamil. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game still scoreless, Hamil would homer and put Webber ahead one heading to STU's last at-bats. Unfortunately, the Bobcats would not be able to generate enough offense to break the WIU lead, and fall in the second game, 1-0. Overall, on the day, Catasus had a strong day pitching, by giving up only one run off of six hits, while striking out one Lady Warrior.
The Bobcats take some time off next week, and return back to action the following week, where they will head to Daytona Beach to play against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle on Sunday, April 12
