MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (3-18, TSC 1-9) picks up first Sun Conference win in doubleheader against Embry-Riddle (18-18, TSC 3-7) in an afternoon doubleheader that started in Daytona Beach, Fla at DSC Softball Complex Sunday, April 12, but ended in Miami Gardens at Bobcat Field.
Cristina Sacramento and
Carson Catasus combined for a shutout win in game two to secure the Bobcats first win in conference for the season. Catasus also led the STU offense going a combined three for five with an RBI within the doubleheader.
In game one, which started at the Eagles home field. ERAU got off to a quick start, tacking on nine runs in their first at-bats of the day in the bottom of the first. After another inning of play, the game was called on Sunday due to weather problems. It was then decided to move the remaining first game and whole second game to Bobcat Field, where ERAU would still be considered the home team.
After play resumed, not much more action happened, as the Bobcats were only able to post a total of five hits in game one, off the bats of
Cristina Sacramento,
Natalie Sacramento,
Kristen Scott,
Michelle Murch, and Catasus. This would later assure the Eagles 9-0 victory over STU in game one played in five innings.
In game two though, it was all Bobcats. STU started their roll in the top of the second, as a
Christina Horton RBI single up the middle scored
Natalie Sacramento to give the Bobcats the only lead they needed on the day. A Catasus RBI single in the fifth and a
Linett Perez 2 RBI double would pad the STU lead, as the pitching and defense took care of the rest.
Between starter
Cristina Sacramento and reliever Catasus, the mound only surrendered four hits in game two and four walks, while posting two strikeouts combined. This also came with allowing no runs scored and, in result, producing the Bobcats first conference win and Sacramento's first win of the season as well.
The Bobcats look to keep their conference roll going, as they head up to Ave Maria for a doubleheader this Saturday, April 18 to faceoff against the Gyrenes. First pitch of game one set for 1 p.m.
