MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (26-10) take down Clearwater Christian College (0-20) in game one of three-game series at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
Andrew Denis picked up his third win of the season, after working six innings in his start and only allowing one run, while posting five strikeouts. At the plate,
Cesar Ramirez had the strongest day, going three for five with three RBI and a double.
To start the game, the Bobcats started strong in their first at-bats, as
Nico Hernandez,
Cesar Ramirez and
Bryan Bermudez tacked on an RBI each in the inning to start STU's day with a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats would pad that lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Ramirez hitting into a double play would score
David Quintero from third base, putting STU ahead four, heading to the fifth. Clearwater would respond in their next at-bats, as they cut the Bobcat lead to three after a Bobcat error and Cougar hit would result in the first CCC run of the night. STU would gain that run back and then some, as a two-run inning would come from a solo homer
Eric Santamaria and ground ball error scoring another. The biggest inning for STU started with a single from
Paul Chacin, followed up singles from
Adam Duarte and
Alejandro Oviedo. A three-run homerun from the bat of
Nicholas Adorno and Ramirez two-RBI double would push their lead to double digits and wrap up their six-run sixth inning. After, the huge half inning,
Anthony Lopez was able to wrap up the last inning of the game, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Overall, Santamaria and Adorno's homers were the biggest hits of the day. But, the bats of Ramirez, Hernandez, Santamaria and Bermudez were the most consistent, as they all had multi-hit days. Ramirez and Adorno were also the biggest run producers, as they both had three RBI a piece on the night.
Bobcats continue their series with the Cougars tomorrow, March 31, where they will host a doubleheader to wrap up the series. First pitch of game one tomorrow set for 3 p.m.
