MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (28-10) completed the sweep of Clearwater Christian (0-22) in a doubleheader at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.  Game one would see the Bobcats challenged before eventually securing the 8-6 victory. Game two would be more decisive as the run-rule would end matters prematurely, giving the Bobcats the 12-0 victory. Â
Bryan Bermudez led all Bobcats, on the day, going a combined six for six at the plate with an RBI.
In game one, the Cougars attacked first, as they were able to post three runs in their first inning at-bats off of two hits and four walks. The Bobcats would respond in the bottom half of the inning, as back-to-back doubles from Bermudez and
Nico Hernandez would score the Bobcats' first run of the day. An RBI double by Doug Rovello and RBI single Bermudez would knot the game up, heading to the top of the third. A Hernandez two-RBI single, a
Cesar Ramirez RBI double, and a
Jerry Downs two-run opposite filed homerun in the bottom of the fourth gave the Bobcats their first lead of the day and moved them ahead 8-3 heading to the fifth. The Cougars would cut into the STU lead in their next two rounds of at-bats as they would score one in the fifth and two in the sixth to cut the Bobcat lead to two heading to the final inning of play. The Bobcats were able to hold the lead and the win, as pitcher
Alex Viera wrapped up the final at-bats for the Cougars, surrendering no runs.
Overall in the game,
Anthony Lopez picks up his first win of the season, going two and two-thirds innings, and giving up only one run and posting one strikeout on the day. Hitting wise, Bermudez had a perfect game one, going four for four with an RBI and double, while
Adam Duarte, Hernandez, Ramirez and Rovello all had multi-hit games.
In game two the Bobcats struck first, posting a five-run inning in the bottom of the first. St. Thomas would pick up where they left off in the bottom of the second, adding another three runs. A Hernandez RBI double scored Bermudez, a Downs RBI single scored Hernandez, and a Duarte sacrifice fly scored Downs.  The trend would continue in the bottom of the third when the Bobcats posted another four runs off of four hits. The 12-0 lead would suffice to the very end, as the run-rule was eventually administered at the conclusion of the top of the fifth.
Game two would see
Chris Rodriguez pick up his second win of the season. In his two innings pitched, Rodriguez surrendered no runs, gave up only one hit, and notched himself one strikeout.  Offensively, the Bobcats were again led by Bermudez, who was a perfect two for two to go along with three runs. Downs was also solid at the plate going two for three with an RBI.Â
Paul Chacin,
Alejandro Oviedo, Duarte, and
Michael Centeno each had two RBI.
A significant moment appeared in the top of the first when pitcher
Ben Ancheff made his season debut for the Bobcats. The junior has had a roundabout journey to St. Thomas, with previous stops at Division I institutions, namely Georgia and Central Arkansas. His debut was quite a successful one. In his one inning at the mound, Ancheff went three up and three down.
Bobcats bounce back into action tomorrow, April 31, when they face off against conference foe Florida Memorial in a non-conference game. First pitch is slated for 6 P.M. E.T.Â
