MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The twenty-second ranked Bobcats (37-13, TSC 18-8) resounded from yesterday's 5-3 defeat against the third-ranked Northwood (39-10, TSC 22-5) with a sweep in today's doubleheader. Crucial plays down the stretch led to a 4-2 victory in game one. A hot streak of hitting in the first few innings of game two would build a commanding lead for the Bobcats, who eventually cruised to a 9-4 victory. With the victory, the Bobcats also managed to vault themselves into a tie for the Sun Conference's second seed with Embry-Riddle, who lost to Southeastern today.Â
The Bobcats struck first blood in a big way when
Bryan Bermudez teed off his first homer of the season. Hitting in the lead-off spot, Bermudez belted the ball to deep left in the Bobcats' very first at-bat, providing an early 1-0 lead. The lead would stand until the bottom seventh, when a
Paul Chacin sac bunt scored
Nico Hernandez. The 2-0 lead was short lived as the Seahawks would accrue two runs off a Tyler Goff RBI single and a Casey Mullennix sac bunt in the top eighth. The Bobcats, however, would have an answer in the form of Hernandez. He hit an RBI single that scored
Michael Centeno.Â
Oscar Rodriguez would score on the very same play due to an error by the outfielder. Now ahead 4-2, the Bobcats only needed three outs to secure the victory. In for the close,
Chris Rodriguez entered the game for the Bobcats in relief. Rodriguez quickly gave up two hits before forcing Keivan Berges into a fly-out to left field.  He would soon end the inning, and subsequently the match, with consecutive strikeouts.
Hernandez's play highlighted the Bobcat efforts in game one. On senior day, the senior delivered big plays for the Bobcats finishing with two hits and an RBI. Bermudez electrified the crowd with a home run in his first at-bat.Â
Jerry Downs also tallied two hits, and
Eric Santamaria,
Adam Duarte, and Centeno each had a hit. In six innings pitched,
Alex Hernandez gave up no runs and recorded five strikeouts.Â
Ben Ancheff would pick up his third win of the season, while Chis Rodriguez would pick up his ninth save of the year.
The Bobcats would again be the team to get off to a hot start in game two, putting up three runs off five hits and one Northwood error. It began with back-to-back RBI singles by Santamaria and
Steven Fischer. Two plays later, Duarte hit an RBI single to score Santamaria. Despite St. Thomas' firepower, Northwood was not without fight.  Joee Reyna would tee off a homer to left field in the top second to cut into the Bobcat lead.Â
Cesar Ramirez would reassert the Bobcats' dominance when he hit a three-run home run in the bottom second. The Bobcats would continue to bring in the runs in the bottom fourth, totaling three runs off four hits. The Seahawks would attempt to make a game of the contest. Brandon Crawford would homer in the top seventh, and two additional runs would be brought in off two hits and an error in the top eighth. The rally would still fall significantly short, with the 9-4 score remaining as the final.
Game two was highlighted by multiple Bobcat players earning their way onto the score sheet. Ramirez led all Bobcats with two runs, three RBI, and a three-run home run. Fischer and Santamaria also had solid performances, each finishing with two hits and two RBI.  Chacin continued to demonstrate his value in the fourth spot, earning two hits and an RBI. Duarte tallied a hit and two RBI, while
Brandon Canizares finished with two hits in his four at-bats. Earning the win was
Kharlin Sued, who improved to 4-2. Sued surrendered no runs in his 4.1 innings pitched, and tossed four strikeouts.
The Bobcats return to action on Tuesday, April 21, when they will again face Northwood in a non-conference match-up. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 P.M. E.T.
