BOBCATS BRING THE BREEZE TO PALM BEACH; SWEEP KEISER TRI-MATCH

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Thomas (12-3) put forth another standout performance on the road, sweeping both opponents at the Keiser Tri-Match.  The Bobcats first shutout host Keiser (10-3), before trouncing Edward Waters (4-8).  Offensively, Whitney Battoe and Cheye-Anne Savage were today's superlatives, with each notching 16 kills between the two matches.  Pacing the Bobcat offense were Dana Nowaczyk and Kimberly Martino, combining for 68 assists.  Defensively, Jordan Wiese led the way with 24 digs on the evening.

The Bobcats got off to a quick start, easily dispatching the Seahawks 25-18 in the first set.  They seemed destined for another easy finish early in the second, but Keiser finally showed signs of life when they launched a run of their own.  When the Seahawks' Morgan Leff found Nicole Papineau for the kill, the second set was suddenly even at 21.  After traiding points, two Bobcat kills and a Keiser attack error gave St. Thomas the two-set lead.  The third set would witness another tight finish down the stretch.  Down 24-21, the Seahawks rallied with three straight points to again even the contest.  Savage then put down the kill to re-establish the lead for the Bobcats, and an attack error by Gida Victor finally sealed Keiser's fate.

The Bobcats received multiple contributions in this outing.  Carly Durr led the way with eight kills, followed by Samantha Garza (seven kills, two block-assists) and Chancie Grant (seven kills, three block-assists, and one block-solo).  Savage had six kills to go along with two block-assists, while Marisa Markus, Stacey Spalding, and Battoe each finished with five kills.  Serving the ball for the Bobcats were Nowaczyk and Martino, who accrued 24 assists and 11 assists, respectively.  Steadying the defense was Wiese with her 16 kills.

In their second match-up, St. Thomas steam-rolled the Tigers in three uncompetitive sets.  The Bobcats took the sets 25-17, 25-6, 25-10.  Battoe led the way in this affair with 11 kills and six service aces.  Savage finished with 10 kills and two block-assists, and Markus tallied another seven kills.  Nowaczyk tallied 21 assists, and Martino filled in with another 12 assists.  Wiese, again, led the Bobcat defense with eight digs.

After spending some time on the road, the Bobcats return to the comforts of home when they take on Florida Memorial in their Sun Conference opener on Monday, September 21st.  First serve is set for 7 P.M. E.T. at the Fernandez Family Center for Leadership.
