MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (13-3, 1-0 TSC) dominated Florida Memorial (3-9, 0-1) 25-11, 25-8, 25-14 to win in straight sets in the Sun Conference opener for both teams. Â The Bobcats were led by sophomore
Whitney Battoe who recorded 10 kills, five digs and four aces. Â
Dana Nowaczyk led all players with 26 assists, while
Jessica Ingram (seven digs) and
Jordan Wiese (six digs) led the way defensively.
The Bobcats trailed 8-6 in the first set, before winning 19 of the final 25 points in the opening stanza. Â In the second set, STU reeled off a 14-0 run with Battoe serving to open up a 20-3 lead. Â In the third set, the Bobcats jumped on the Lions 6-1, then later scored seven of the final nine points to finish off the match.
St. Thomas returns to action vs. Sun Conference rival Southeastern on Thursday at 7 pm at the Fernandez Family Center.
