DOUBLE TROUBLE; BATTOE AND DURR LEAD BOBCATS OVER SOUTHEASTERN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (14-3, TSC 2-0) doused the Southeastern Fire (7-4, TSC 0-1) in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22) to clinch their second Sun Conference win. Leading the bobcats in the win was Whitney Battoe, who recorded game-high 24 kills, nine digs and one block assist. Other attackers with solid performances included Carly Durr (14 kills), Marisa Markus (11 kills), and Samatha Garza (nine kills). Dana Nowaczyk led all players with assists as she recorded 58 of them and also played a pivotal role defensively. Defensively the bobcats held strong as they totaled 54 combined digs with the majority split amongst Nowaczyk (10 digs), Jordan Wiese (10 digs), Battoe (9 digs), Markus ( 9 digs), and Sydney Maynard (8 digs).

The Bobcats came out strong, winning their first set 25-22. Moving on to the second set, St. Thomas lost their spunk as they fell short of the fire 22-25. Rejuvenated in the third set, St. Thomas played with a chip on their shoulder as they stretched the score and trampled the Fire 25-12. With the fourth set at an even keel throughout, the Fire gave everything they had, but it was not enough to stop the bobcats persistant tenacity.  Finally, the Bobcats pulled away for a 25-22 victory in the final.

Up next, St. Thomas is set to square off against rival Keiser, yet again, on Friday, October 2nd.  This contest, however, will be their first Sun Conference match-up. First serve is set for 7 P.M. E.T. at the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center.
