THOMSSON'S STRIKE HELPS SECURE BOBCATS FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (4-4, TSC 1-1) earned their first Sun Conference victory today over the visiting Thomas Nighthawks (4-5, TSC 1-1).  Sarah Lyppert Thomsson's goal in the 46th minute proved the difference-maker, with the 1-0 score remaining final.

Despite a scoreless first half, both teams were able to generate good looks.  The Bobcats took 10 cracks at it, five of which were on target.  The Nighthawks had six of their own, three of which were on target.  Both keepers were sharp in the early goings.  Cristina Garwacki came up with three saves, and Thomas' Sara-Ann Hartley successfully defended five Bobcat attacks.

The Bobcats aggressiveness finally paid dividends in the second half's opening minutes, when Lyppert Thomsson scored her fifth goal of the season on a break-away.  The Bobcat defense would lock down the Nighthawk offense the rest of the way, and Garwacki would record her first shutout of the season and improve her record to 3-2-0.

The Bobcats return to the pitch on Friday, October 2, when they battle conference foe, South Carolina-Beaufort.  Kick-off is set for 4 P.M. E.T.
