BOBCATS DROP NAILBITER TO AVE MARIA

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Ave Maria (3-6, 1-3 TSC) defeated St. Thomas (6-4, 1-2 TSC) 2-1 on a game-winning goal in the 90th minute.

AMU's Sarah McBride scored the game winner with 23 seconds remaining in regulation to break the 1-1 tie and give the Gyrenes their first Sun Conference win of the season.

Andreina Sifontes scored the lone goal for the Bobcats in the 73rd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, before the Gyrenes broke the scoreless tie on McBride's first goal of the game.

Playing with just 10 on the field much of the contest, the Bobcats dominated play despite the final score.  STU outshot AMU 21-3, holding the Gyrenes without a shot in the first half.

The match was the first women's soccer game to ever be played under the new lights at the STU Soccer Field.  An impressive crowd enjoyed the game under the lights, many of whom donated items for STU's relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and throughout the Caribbean.

St. Thomas returns to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. vs. Warner University.
