MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Â In a valiant performance, St. Thomas (8-5, TSC 3-4) came just short in a 1-0 loss to Keiser (13-0, TSC 6-0), the number one ranked team in the NAIA.
The game was scoreless until the Seahawks ended STU's shutout off a corner kick with 1:44 left in regulation.
Both defenses stifled their opponents, just allowing a combined 15 shots throughout the match. The Bobcats goalkeeper, Olivia Waller, came up with some impressive saves (six total) to keep the match level until the 89th minute.
STU's defensive back line of Claudia Avila, Jannel Johnson, Andreina Sifontes and Stephanie Martin was exceptional, holding the top-ranked Seahawks to just one shot in the entire first half.
Kylie Braeseke and Kortney Hinden provided St. Thomas with the Bobcats'Â only two shots on goal.
Â
Of the seven shots on goal taken by Keiser, Waller saved six of them, proving worthy of her status as the reigning conference defensive player of the week.
Next up for the Bobcats is a home Sun Conference matchup against Johnson & Wales on Monday at 7 p.m.
