BOBCATS POUNCE ON WILDCATS

Miami Gardens, Fla. – St. Thomas University (6-5-2, TSC 5-1) defeated Johnson and Wales University (6-3-1, TSC 4-2) 3-1 in a Saturday night Sun Conference showdown.

The match started off slow with STU only having one shot on goal in the first half while the Wildcats pressured the defense who had six shots in the first half. Robert Barton had 4 dynamic saves in the first half including a kick save on a fast break from JWU.

The Bobcats came out firing in the second half scoring in the 47th minute of the match to break the deadlock with an Artur Sharapov header off a perfect corner kick from Vinicius Carvalho. St. Thomas continued to increase the lead with an absolutely dynamic strike from Kris Wilkinson that never hit the floor after it rebounded off the cross bar to give STU the 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

The third goal of the match came in the 62nd minute off another corner kick from Carvalho that landed at the feet of Pablo Gill who used some nice skill to tap it in with his back heal for the 3-0 lead.

The Bobcat defense only allowed the Wildcats to have one shot in the second half that was saved by Barton. The STU keeper had five saves in the match to earn the win for St. Thomas.

Sharapov led the way for the Bobcats with two shots, one goal, and one assist. Gill had Wilkinson both had one shot and one goal in the match. Carvalho had a brillant match with one shot and two assists in the game.

Next up for the Bobcats is another TSC matchup against the #15 ranked Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. on Thursday, October 27th at 7 p.m.
