CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- St. Thomas (19-5) faced two opponents on day two of the Lindsey Wilson College Tournament and dropped all sets in what would be tough back to back matches.
Their first opponent was Campbellsville (19-8), which brought a tight game, ultimately leading to a sweep by CU to the Bobcats in straight sets 0-3 (24-26, 20-25, 20-25). It was a constant battle for the lead but St. Thomas couldn't get a break in this match.
Whitney Battoe led the way for the Bobcats with 11 kills, one service ace with one block and three digs.
Shanotta Bawek eight kills, two assist, one service ace and 13 digs.
Kadeeja Griffin added six kills, one assist and one block. Priscilla Ertty had another strong game with 19 assists and three kills, adding two digs as well. The Bobcats finished with 41 kills, 37 assist but only four blocks.
The second match up of the day was against #5 Lindsey Wilson (23-1), host of the tournament, a team that did not take their foot off the pedal. In the first set, the Bobcats could not get a run going. It wasn't until the second set that there was hope of a comeback for St. Thomas. In the end, STU was swept in straight sets 0-3 (8-25, 20-25, 19-25) in what would be only the fourth time the Bobcats have dropped straight sets to lose a match.
Bawek was the kill leader in the second game with nine kills, two assist, one block and eight digs.
Courtney White had a strong second game adding six kills, and three blocks. Battoe also contributed with five kills, one block and four digs. St. Thomas totaled with 28 kills, 27 assist, 16 blocks and 40 digs.
Next up for the Bobcats is an away Sun Conference match up against Florida Memorial University on Wednesday, October 26
th at 7 p.m.
