BOBCATS ROLL PAST LIONS

Miami Gardens, Fla.- St. Thomas (20-5, 8-2 TSC) swept Florida Memorial (2-24, 2-9 TSC) in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) taking down its crosstown rivals.

The Bobcats took control of the match early, taking the match at their pace. From the first set, STU pushed to make sure they would win in three. With the scoreline reading 20-17, in favor of St. Thomas, FMU scored. Kimberly Martino and the Bobcats went on a 5-0 run to end the match, two of those points coming from service aces from Martino.

The second set brought runs back and forth but St. Thomas ultimately won 25-18.

With the final set imminent, Florida Memorial knew their fight had to come out and come out strong, but their fight was no match for the fierce Bobcats as they pulled out of the third set victorious, improving to 20-5 on the season and 8-2 in the Sun Conference.

Whitney Battoe led the match with 12 kills. Shanotta Bawek followed closely behind her with nine kills, adding two service aces, six digs, and one block. Martino helped out with three service aces and 22 assists. On the defensive end, Haley Bannister ended the match with 17 digs, as Kelli Kosydor trailed closely with seven digs.

Next up for the Bobcats is the No One Fights Alone Volleyball Tri-Match in support of Graham Greenback, a close friend of the team.

Following that match is an NAIA matchup against Fisk at 6 p.m., both matches being played at the Fernandez Family Center on Saturday, October 29.
