Lakeland, Fla. – St. Thomas (9-6, TSC 4-5) fell to Southeastern University (13-1, TSC 7-1) 2-1 in a Sun Conference nail biter.
Jannel Johnson scored STU's lone goal on a penalty kick early in the 49th minute, her team-leading fifth goal of the year.
The game started off as a defensive match as both teams were held scoreless in the first half. St. Thomas had four shots in the half with only two on goal. Southeastern had eight shots in the half also only two on goal.
The Bobcats got on the board early in the second half with a called penalty in the box. Johnson was awarded the penalty kick and she delivered a hard strike netting the first goal of the game.
The Fire responded with two unanswered goals to close out the game late in the match. The first was in the 74
th minute tying the game at 1-1. The go-ahead goal came in the 82
nd minute of the match giving SEU the lead 2-1.
Amyah Banks lead the Bobcat offense with three shots in the match and two on goal.
