BOBCATS HOLD OFF LIONS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (10-6, 5-5 TSC) defeated Florida Memorial (2-10-1, 1-8-1 TSC) 2-1 in the regular season finale for both teams Tuesday night at Bobcat Field. 

Sarrah Lyppert-Thomsson scored off an assist by Ana Parra in the 10th minute. Claudia Avila added a goal in the 23rd minute on a free kick which proved to be the game-winner.

Florida Memorial scored a goal in 47th minute to cut the lead in half, but the game remained scoreless from there.

The Bobcat offense was led by Avila who had three shots in the match all on goal and netting one goal. Parra added three shots one on goal and added one assist. Amyah Banks added two shots in the match to help the Bobcat attack.

The defense and Cristina Garwacki held the Lions to only four shots in the entire match. Garwacki made one save and earned herself the win.

The match was held on senior night as 7 Bobcat seniors were honored during halftime ceremony.

The seniors honored were; Andreina Sifontes, Amyah Banks, Zelda Jagryd, Jannel Johnson, Claudia Avila, Ana Parra and Stephanie Martin. 

Next up for the Bobcats is The Sun Conference Championship tournament that begins Saturday. St. Thomas enters the conference championships as the sixth seed in the seven-team tournament. Sixth seeded STU will play at #3 Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga. on Saturday in the quarterfinals of The Sun Conference Championships. Time of Saturday's game is still to be announced.
