YELLOW JACKETS STING BOBCATS IN OPENER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Allen (1-0) defeated host St. Thomas (0-1) 67-60 in the season-opener for both teams Monday night at the Fernandez Family Center.  Samara Auguste and Desanta' Franklin-Jordan led St. Thomas with 18 points. Allen's Kamya Thomas led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting.
 
STU led 32-29 at halftime, but then were outscored 25-12 in the third quarter as Allen went on a 16-0 run to end the period.  The Bobcats battled back with a 12-3 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to single digits, but the Yellow Jackets held off STU for the victory.
 
The Bobcats were led by senior Franklin-Jordan who totaled 18 points off of 7-of-12 shooting. She hit 1-of-2 from downtown and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. Also with 18 points was sophomore guard Samara Auguste off of 6-of-12 shooting adding 2-of-6 from distance and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Next in line for the Bobcats was Jordan Charlton who netted eight points off of 3-of-4 field goals and going 1-of-2 from behind the arc. Closing out the top scorers for the Bobcats was another underclassmen Michella Green who contributed six points off of 3-of-5 shooting. The team collectively shot 40% from the field going 24-of-60 and 22% from deep going 4-of-18.
 
St. Thomas returns to action vs. Madonna (Mich.) 6 p.m. on Friday at the Fernandez Family Center.
