MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (3-6) faced a tough opponent in 14
th ranked Purdue Northwest (13-3) in the opening game of the Miami-Doral Hotels Classic at the Fernandez Family Center. The Bobcats fell just short to the Pride by a final score of 74-82.

Supavadee Kunchuan stole the show by leading all players in scoring with 31 points. This was a career high for Kunchuan and the most points in a single game by a Bobcat since Dannisha Pierce, when she put up 37 points versus Ave Maria on January 7, 2015. Kunchuan went 10-for-14 from the field, three-for-four from beyond the arc, and a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
St. Thomas were confronted with a 17 point deficit going into the fourth period and responded valiantly by outscoring Purdue Northwest 25-16. The Pride was able to hold on to their lead in large part due to an impressive performance from the free throw line. Out of 31 free throw attempts, they converted 29 to end the game with a 94 percent free throw conversion rate.
The Miami-Doral Hotels Classic continues Wednesday at the Fernandez Family Center. The tournament begins at 12 p.m. and culminates at 8 p.m. with the day's final matchup between St. Thomas and Bryan College.
