AGUIRRE PROPELS BOBCATS IN WIN OVER FLORIDA MEMORIAL

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (6-4), ranked number one by Perfect Game and number two in the NAIA Coaches Poll, took care of Florida Memorial (1-9) 10-5 on Wednesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.  Oscar Aguirre went 3-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI to lead the Bobcats.

Adam Toombs earned the win for STU in relief.

The Bobcats opened the scoring in the second inning with a Steven Fischer RBI-single that scored Adam Durate.  In the next at bat, Aguirre then hit an RBI-single, scoring pinch runner Frankie Rodriguez.  Aguirre then hit an RBI-double in the bottom of the third to put STU ahead 3-0.  German Morales followed with an RBI single as part of a four-run inning.

FMU got on the board on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth and ended up scoring five runs to make the score 6-5.

Aguirre hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to put the game away.

St. Thomas returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at NCAA DII Palm Beach Atlantic.
