SWEET ONE-RUN WIN OVER LOURDES

Bobcats improve to 3-1 in Clermont

CLERMONT, Fla. - St. Thomas (4-4) defeated Lourdes (0-2) 5-4 in the second of two games Sunday at the Spring Tournament at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.  Earlier Sunday, the Bobcats fell 4-3 to Davenport (4-2).
Down 2-0 in bottom of third vs. Lourdes, Greta Longagnani hit a sacrifice fly RBI that scored Meghan Riddle to put the Bobcats on the board.  Jamie Gonzalez followed with a 2-RBI single that scored Alexa Spellman and Melody Grafals to give STU a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth, Jessica Matias hit an RBI double up the middle to score Alexis Castroman.  Matias then stole home to put the Bobcats ahead 5-2.  
Lourdes battled back scoring two runs in the sixth to make it a one-run game heading into the seventh.  Longagnani entered the game in relief of Bridget Ruhl and retired three of the four batters she faced to close out the game and earn the save.  Ruhl was credited as the winning pitcher after coming in to relieve starter Jennifer Acevedo.
For the game, three Bobcats registered doubles: Matias, Grafals and Castroman. Matias also stole two bases, scored a run and had one RBI.  Grafals went 2-3 with a run scored.  Gonzalez was perfect from the plate going 2-2 with 2 RBI and a stolen base.
In the first game of the day, the Bobcats trailed Davenport 4-0 heading into the sixth inning.  In the sixth, Longagnani scored on an RBI by Castroman.  Then trailing 4-1 in the seventh, Longagnani belted a two-run home run to center field to cut the deficit to one.  Davenport however would hold on for the 4-3 win.
Jessica Castiglione started the game vs. Davenport and allowed four runs, but just one earned run, in four innings pitched.  She struck out six batters and walked none, allowing six hits.
Carson Catasus pitched two perfect innings in relief of Castiglione. Catasus allowed no hits and walked none, striking out two of the six batters she faced.
St. Thomas returns to action on Monday in Clermont, Fla.
